We have openings for two 2-year Research Fellows (Marie Curie Experienced Researcher, i.e. Postdoc) positions (Barcelona and Amsterdam) and a 18-month PhD Student (Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher) position (Brussels) as part of the ESSENCE Marie Curie Initial Training Network. These are high-profile positions that offers exceptional benefits ideally suited for top candidates.
- The ESSENCE Platform (Postdoc) - Barcelona. This position will focus on continuing the development of an overall architecture for integration of the components developed by the different sub-projects. This task involves both theoretical and practical work, and involves a strong element of aligning heterogeneous methods with each other. The position also has a strong career development focus, as the Experienced Researcher will be trained in research management and coordination, and will have the opportunity to spend extended periods of time with non-academic consortium partners.
- The ESSENCE Model (Postdoc) - Amsterdam. The main goal of this position is to investigate with modern data-mining techniques whether, and if so, how, word-meanings and opinions have changed due to developments in artificial intelligence. Assuming that meanings and public opinions did evolve, a further goal will be to increase our understanding of these changes by investigating what triggered them and to provide a more general theoretical model of these changes. The position also has a strong career development focus, as the Experienced Researcher will be trained in research management and coordination, and will have the opportunity to spend extended periods of time with non-academic consortium partners.
- Open-ended Robot Interaction (PhD Student) - Brussels. This position consists in assisting aspects of research into language grounding on robots and the evolution of symbolic communication. The specific topic will be chosen in coordination with the candidate. It can be experiments in the acquisition and creation of gestural communication, participation in the neural implementation of Fluid Construction Grammar, or more linguistically oriented research towards sophisticated grammars and grammar acquisition.
The Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (University of Amsterdam) and the School of Informatics (The University of Edinburgh) have an opening for two research positions as part of the ESSENCE Marie Curie ITN.
While the former is a 2-year Experienced Researcher (Postdoc) position concerning The ESSENCE Model, the latter is a 28-month Early Stage Researcher (PhD Student) position dealing with Dynamic, focussed data matching. Both are high-profile positions that offer exceptional benefits ideally suited for top candidates. Please apply here.

We are currently looking for exceptionally strong candidates to cover two 36-months positions for Early-Stage Reserachers (PhD candidates), all of them starting in September 2014, for the following projects at our participant institutions. This is a rare opportunity to be involved in a highly prestigious European training network for outstanding applicants in an emergent and important research area, led by internationally leading groups in their fields!
All contracted researchers will be expected to travel, participate in network-wide training events, spend extended periods of time abroad with supervisors from other institutions within the network, and during secondments to non-academic and industrial partners.
